Position Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for providing a visual presence to preserve a safe and secure environment for all staff and visitors to the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum and in additional to all other Missouri Historical Society properties. The Resource Protection Officer will be a dedicated professional that is able to assist in the deterrence of criminal activity according to the Missouri Historical Society's policy and that of the St. Louis County Private Security Unit. 

Essential Functions:

  • Resource Protection Officer is considered an essential staff member and is required to work scheduled shift at all times, in all conditions.
  • Responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the museum's exhibition and collections. Provides excellent customer services to all visitors and staff.
  • Conducts foot patrols of interior and exterior grounds of the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum.
  • Performs all tasks associated with written and verbal Resource Protection Officer duties.
  • Maintains current and accurate knowledge of the Missouri Historical Society's and St. Louis County Private Security Section's policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for preparing complete and accurate electronic and written reports, overseeing records of all staff, vendors, contractors and visitors entering nonpublic areas.
  • Identifies safety concerns and initiates corrective actions. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some secondary education or security-related or military experience a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years preferably in a nonprofit museum and/or public sector.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Metropolitan Security Officer's License through the St. Louis County Private Security Section.
  • Must have or be able to obtain certification in CPR/First Aid (other training as deemed necessary).
  • Should have or be able to obtain a valid state issued vehicle operator license.
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

 Preferred Qualification:

  • Veteran with honorable discharge preferred.

Skills:

  • Experience with Milestone camera, DNA Fusion building security system and Notifier fire system software(s) preferred.
  • Required to stand and walk a large percent of the time or with disability, be able to perform duties with reasonable accommodations. And very often required to work a flexible schedule outside of normal hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
