Position Summary:

The Missouri Historical Society seeks and temporary full-time Inventory Technician for the Photos and Prints Departments. The Inventory Technician is responsible for updating locations and record hierarchies for folder and item-level records and reconciling duplicate item-level records in the Photos and Prints Collection. The Technician will also review and inventory the donation backlog to update locations and ensure that all donation paperwork is in order.

This position works a full-time schedule for 10 months (January 1 - October 31, 2022).

Essential Functions:

  • Update and review folder and item-level locations and hierarchies
  • Reconcile duplicate item-level records
  • Reconcile inconsistencies in folder-level records
  • Update locations and review relevant paperwork for backlogged donations

Qualifications:

  • Degree in related discipline (Library Science, History, American Studies, or Material Culture) preferred but not required
  • Experience working with image collections in an archival setting including knowledge of proper identification, handling, and care of photographic and print materials preferred
  • Experience working with historical visual material
  • Experience working with databases preferred

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated worker
  • Knowledge of archival methodology
