Position Summary:

The Missouri Historical Society seeks a temporary part-time Archives Assistant. The Archives Assistant will take the lead on coordinating an oversize photography project, assist on projects to re-house and move collection items in preparation for a move, and assist with public service needs. Position may lead to longer term, temporary employment on cataloging and digitization project. This position is currently slated for 24 weeks.

Essential Functions:

• Assign/confirm identification numbers and deliver images to the photographer
• Return and track location for photographed images
• Assist with rehousing of material in preparation of storage room move
• Assist with public service requests including researcher correspondence, reference, and digitization
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in History or American Studies
• Masters degree students or recent graduates in Library Science or Museum Studies preferred
• Prior experience working in an archival or museum setting, particularly with handling photographic materials

Skills:

• Experience with Photoshop and collection management systems a plus
• Strong attention to detail
• Solid written and oral communication skills
