Position Summary:


The Missouri History Museum is seeking candidates to join a team that will undertake a move of the Objects Collection in preparation for the installation of compact shelving within three object storerooms. The primary goal of this project is to ensure that the collection of over 80,000 objects are safely moved to a temporary location within the current storage facility while recording reliable location information into Mimsy XG, the museum's collections management database. After construction is completed within each storeroom the objects will be moved back and given a new permanent location. The move team will work under the supervision of the Collections Manager and Objects Preservation Administrator.

This position is temporary and project-based with an anticipated end date of March 2027 with possibility for extension.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Working effectively and cooperatively as part of a team during a complex and coordinated move.
  • Safely pack and move objects between storage locations.
  • Rehousing objects as needed.
  • Recording location changes.
  • Determining space and shelving needs as objects are placed in new locations.
  • Adhere to schedule set for the project.

  • Experience working with diverse historical collections and handling artifacts

  • Knowledge of and commitment to current museum best practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with museum collections management databases (familiarity with Mimsy XG collection database preferred, but not necessary)
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to safely lift 50+ lbs. and climb ladders


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, History or related field is required; Master's degree in Museum Studies, Public History, or a related field is preferred.
