Digital Communications Manager
Position Summary:
The Digital Communications Manager develops and executes digital communications and engagement strategy for the Missouri Historical Society and its entities. The Digital Communications Manager maintains the Institution's brand standards in all online communications. This position also supervises and directs the Institution's Web Content Coordinator.
Essential Functions:
- Manage overarching digital communications strategy for MHS, including website content, social media and digital engagement initiatives for the Missouri History Museum, Soldiers Memorial Military Museum, and the Library and Research Center.
- Maintains and develop standards, processes and best practices for digital content creation and its distribution.
- Serve as brand journalist and storyteller, writing and producing engaging online content to advance the institution's mission and awareness.
- Develops engaging mission-driven graphics and videos for MHS's social media channels based off of the institutional social media calendars and public engagement initiatives.
- Oversee and innovate with MHS's website at mohistory.org and MHS's email marketing program.
- Tracks/reports on digital analytics using Google Analytics and SproutSocial.
- Works closely with the Publications department on the management of historyhappenshere.org MHS's active and relevant blog.
- Serves as the point of contact for online content planning with other divisions.
- Leads the ground-up development and introduction of robust social media channels for Soldiers Memorial Military Museum and the Library and Research Center.
- Manages a social media promotional budget (i.e. promoted/boosted posts and events).
- Awareness of current news and trends and what makes great viral content and to engage the public with our mission in meaningful ways online.
- Use social listening and engagement to build our brand's relationship with our audiences.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, English or other related field.
- At least 3 years of experience working in digital communications, social media or web content.
Proven writing and editing skills. Candidates will be asked to submit 3-5 writing samples.
Skills:
- A creative storyteller.
- Experience with email marketing software (MarketVolt knowledge a plus).
- Knowledge of basic HTML and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Superior knowledge and fluency with various social media platforms.
- Experience with creating compelling messages for different target demographics and personas.
- Understanding of how data and analytics shape strategy.
- Strong interpersonal skills to motivate and drive collaboration with other functions.
- Ability to inspire content creators to achieve company and/or campaign goals.
- Ability to work both independently and with small committees and groups.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-focused environment.
Preferred Skills:
- The ability to shoot and edit original or repurposed video content for a variety of digital platforms.
- Knowledge of Illustrator and InDesign a plus.
Candidates will be asked to submit examples of video content they have produced.
