Director of Philanthropic Giving

Positon Summary:

The Director of Philanthropic Giving is responsible for integrated fundraising initiatives to secure major and planned gifts. The Director will develop, manage and implement strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors through individualized plans leading to major and transformational gifts. The Director will lead the Major Gift Officers to ensure a dynamic team approach with high reliability to maximize donor potential.

Essential Functions:

  • Enhance and execute comprehensive major and planned giving program to increase charitable support for annual, capital and planned giving goals.
  • Develop strategic plans to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective and current donors both with individuals and businesses, with attention to advancing the major and planned giving programs in achieving annual and campaign goals.
  • Create and manage the marketing of the planned giving program including social media and website in coordination with the communications department.
  • Letter and proposal writing.
  • Assist in the management of the prospect tracking function in Altru donor software.
  • Adhere to the professional, fundraising ethics of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
  • Set realistic but challenging goals for budget

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management or philanthropy or related field; and minimum of 8 years of demonstrable achievement in nonprofit fundraising with major gifts and planned gifts
  • Demonstrated experience in working with planned gift vehicles and planned giving software/calculators
  • 5 years managerial experience
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE)
  • Travel required fulfilling donor and constituent relationship building and fundraising goals.
  • Position requires working occasional nights and weekends.
  • Possess a current, valid driver's license.

Skills:

  • Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) preferred
  • Masters in Philanthropic Studies or Nonprofit Management preferred
  • Solid understanding of development principles, protocols and best practices, especially those related to planned giving
  • Comprehensive knowledge of planned giving fundraising, estate planning or financial planning
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage short-term and long-term plans and goals.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and email applications, Altru or comparable donor software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
