Position Summary:

The Missouri Historical Society seeks a DEIA Coordinator to provide support for both MHS' internal and external DEIA work as we continue our own learning journey towards building both a more equitable and inclusive organizational culture as well as broader museum field. Key responsibilities are summarized as stewarding MHS's accessibility work, planning/providing support on organizational training opportunities and providing administrative support to the DEIA division.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides support to the Managing Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
  • Coordinates and provides administrative support to the DEIA Division
  • Stewards MHS's Accessibility work
  • Manages the coordination of disability services, including but not limited to: Audio Description, ASL interpreters, access labels for exhibits, wheelchairs, sensory kits, answering access@mohistory.org.
  • Collaborates with staff and supervisors across MHS to assess professional development needs for teams and all staff, consolidates similar efforts where possible, and defines training goals and outcomes (especially through a DEIA lens)
  • Identifies training opportunities from AAM, AASLH and other museum entities for staff to attend.
  • Collaborates with on-staff experts and external partners to organize, develop, and deliver workshops that are learner centered, mission aligned and actionable
  • Communicates with all staff and supervisors about training opportunities
  • Maintains and distributes training resources and other best practices
  • Helps to facilitate action plans and follow through after trainings
  • Serves as a training facilitator as appropriate
  • Supports internal and external facilitation of DEIA meetings and trainings
  • Requires travel among three facilities of MHS and other sites with whom we partner
  • Requires evening and weekend work; some holidays on occasion
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in humanities, public history or a related field
  • Minimum 2-4 years of coordinator or project management work, preferably in a nonprofit or museum and/or public sector
  • Experience with work related to accessibility preferred
  • Experience as a coordinator or project manager in a nonprofit institution setting

Skills:

  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, time management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in the standard and advanced use of Microsoft office, Zoom, Sharepoint and similar applications
  • Thrives and enjoys interaction with other staff and the public
  • Effective in team and camaraderie building for an environment that encourages continued learning and a fun workplace
  • Ability to move and set-up up activity tables and chairs
