Position Summary:

The Missouri Historical Society currently seeks a Grant Writer.The Grant Writer is responsible for coordinating with multiple departments within the Museum to find grant funding for priority initiatives and coordinate the process of meeting all the requirements to successfully obtain funding.

Essential Functions:

  • Understand the Missouri Historical Society's priorities, identify funding opportunities to match outlined priorities
  • Coordinate and/or develop grant applications and reports; ensure that high quality grant applications and reports are submitted on time
  • Conduct research to identify funding opportunities
  • Prepare and maintain a calendar of critical dates/key milestones
  • Develop organizational procedures for the grants process, including the identification of key steps/components of successful applications
  • Maintain electronic files of grant applications, grant reports, grant research and grant support data
  • Track and report actual grant income against budgeted grant income to leadership and development committee on a regular basis
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key funding contacts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field and a minimum 5 years substantial experience in a similar role

Skills:

  • Demonstrated effective analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to research issues, interpret and analyze information, prepare succinct information, and provide sound advice, options, and/or recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality documentation such as submissions, briefing papers, reports, and policy development
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with demonstrated ability to tailor communication to relevant audiences and ability to develop high performing working relationships
  • Sound time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated experience in providing quality executive support e.g. arranging meetings, taking minutes, preparing agendas and Ministerial correspondence
  • Experience with fundraising software such as Raiser's Edge, Donor Perfect, or Giftworks and proficient at Microsoft Office Suite
