Position Summary:

The Missouri Historical Society seeks Museum Educators (K-12) to facilitate engaging and participatory programs for school groups, families, and summer camp groups. These programs help to make students feel safe and welcome, develop museum literacy skill, and engage with diverse perspectives and stories.

*Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours is required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • 80% of time is spent facilitating the Museum's guided field trip programs with diverse students from the St. Louis region. This includes preparing the activities and spaces before and after the visit and communicating with teachers on site. Most programs occur Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 2:30pm and include in-person field trips at the Missouri History Museum or the Library and Research Center, virtual programs through Zoom, as well as outreach programs to schools within 25 miles of the Missouri History Museum. Some weekend and evening hours will be required, including 1 Saturday per month

  • 10% of time is spent participating in professional development and training sessions which occur every Tuesday

  • 10% of time may be spent doing a variety of other duties as assigned including: facilitating other education programs offered by the Museum such as early childhood or family programs; developing activities and workshops for family days; assisting with administering surveys; organizing program materials; etc.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least 2 years experience working with youth
  • Must be available for mandatory staff professional development on Tuesday afternoons

  • Demonstrated ability to inclusively work with diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong written and oral communication, organization, and multitasking skills
  • Proficiency in email communication
  • Engaging and welcoming presence
  • Experiences working in a fast-paced, environment in which schedules and details are often changing
  • Ability to handle high stress situations and address problems with professionalism and empathy
  • Multi-lingual capabilities are a plus
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours is required
  • Transportation to outreach programs within 25 miles of the Missouri History Museum
