Museum Educator

Position Summary:

The K-12 Museum Educators primary responsibility is to facilitate engaging and participatory programs for school groups, homeschool families, and summer camp groups. These programs make students feel safe and welcome, help students develop museum literacy skill, and engage students with diverse stories. This position is year-round. Scheduled shifts are Monday through Friday, 10-25 hours per week, and vary from week to week depending on visiting school group reservations.

Essential Functions:

• 80% of time is spent facilitating the Museum's guided field trip programs with diverse students from the St. Louis region. This includes preparing the activities and spaces before and after the visit and communicating with teachers on site. Programs occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 2:30pm and take place at the Missouri History Museum, as well as the Library and Research Center.
• 10% of time is spent participating in professional development and training sessions which occur on Wednesday afternoons.
• 10% of time may be spent doing a variety of other duties as assigned including: facilitating other education programs offered by the Museum such as early childhood or family programs; developing activities and workshops for homeschool days; assisting with administering surveys; organizing program materials; etc.

 Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED is required
• At least 2 years' experience working with youth is required
• An engaging and welcoming presence
• Must be available for mandatory staff professional development on Wednesday afternoons
