Research Assistant - Immigrant Guide
Position Summary:
The Research Assistant-Immigrant Guide will provide research and writing support for a museum reference guide. This position will be synthesizing research notes, identifying gaps, locating missing information, and drafting text for an already developed template including a narrative, timeline, description of landmarks, and bibliography.
Essential Functions:
- Compare existing research notes to project outline; identifying gaps
- Use appropriate research tools to locate missing information
- Write summaries of findings
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in history or the humanities that includes writing research papers
Skills:
- Solid written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and communicate progress regularly
- Understand the research process; historical research skills; ability to learn to use a variety of primary source documents and secondary tools, some of which may be off-site
- Ability to organize research notes and write summaries of findings
- Ability to handle historical and archival research materials carefully to ensure long term preservation
- Basic office computer skills (word processing, Excel spreadsheets, document sharing, and email)
- Ability to use online catalogs and databases for research
