Position Summary:

The Missouri Historical Society is seeking a full-time Resource Protection Officer to fill an evening shift.

The Resource Protection Officer is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the staff, visitors and the collections at all Missouri Historical Society properties. This position will stand posts, screen access, patrol, monitor activity, have courteous and professional interaction with Museum visitors and deter and/or interdict criminal activity according to Missouri Historical Society's policy and the St. Louis County Police Private Security Section.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides excellent services to all visitors and achieve departmental standards in visitor satisfaction and service excellence. Represents the Missouri Historical Society in an exemplary manner as front-line staff.
  • Conducts Security Patrols to deter the threat of crime.
  • Demonstrates and maintain current and accurate knowledge of Missouri Society's Resource Protection Department and St. Louis County Private Security Section's Policies and Procedures.
  • Attends training and staff meetings as required by the Institution and the Resource Protection Department.
  • Communicates with co-workers, supervisors and Missouri Historical Society's staff and visitors.
  • Maintains accountability for submitting accurate documentation.
  • Performs tasks associated with Resource Protection Officer duties.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some secondary education and experience in security-related field a plus
  • 2-years experience preferred in a non-profit museum and/or public sector
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Metropolitan Security Officer's License through the St. Louis County Police Department Private Security Section
  • Must have or be able to obtain certification in CPR/First Aid (other training as deemed necessary)
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualification:

  • Valid state issued drivers/vehicle operator's license

Skills:

  • Experience with building security system and fire system software(s) preferred.
  • Required to stand and walk a large percent of the time. May be required to work outside of normal hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
