The Missouri Historical Society has an opportunity for a hardworking, dynamic and innovative individual to manage the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum and Court of Honor as part of the Missouri Historical Society family. We are looking for someone that is passionate about St. Louis military history and honoring the service of St. Louisans and their families.

Position Summary:

The Soldiers Memorial Division Director/Site Administrator will coordinate exhibition organization and scheduling, collections management, public relations and marketing, grant writing and fund raising, public programming, and personnel administration with Missouri Historical Society departments.

Essential Functions:

Under general direction of the Missouri Historical Society, Soldiers Memorial Division Director/Site Administrator will plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum, including

  • Overall operations
  • Visitor experience
  • Exhibitions
  • Collections care and preservation
  • Research
  • Public programming
  • Volunteer programming

Qualifications:

  • MA in History, Museum Administration, Non-Profit Management or Humanities field preferred/ BA with extensive work experience in museum or non-profit administration may be substituted for advanced degree
  • Experience managing a museum or non-profit cultural organization
  • Experience with military research and interpretative projects
  • Experience with supervising and motivating staff, volunteers and interns
  • Experience working within parameters of approved budget

Skills:

  • Knowledge in military and St. Louis history
  • Knowledge of budget management, funding sources, and grant proposal preparation and procedures
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of museum administration and/or cultural resources/non profit administration
  • Knowledge of artifact preservation and conservation standards
  • Knowledge of museum and historical site interpretive activities and program development through community participation, docent groups, tour exhibits and shows, collections, and related collection records; experience with military and veteran communities
  • Familiarity with research, exhibit design, and collections management
  • Leadership experience and team building
  • Provide leadership to a newly created division of the Missouri Historical Society
