Position Summary:

The Missouri Historical Society seeks a Visitor Engagement Coordinator for the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum in St. Louis. The Soldiers Memorial Visitor Engagement Coordinator fulfills three primary responsibilities:

• Directly engage visitors to Soldiers Memorial Military Museum
• Develop and coordinate community programs
• Develop, coordinate and implement policies, procedures and a team schedule that ensures exceptional visitor engagement

Scheduled shifts for this position are Monday through Sunday, 40 hours per week with the schedule varying pending events. This will include occasional evening hours.

Essential Functions:

• Navigator responsibilities which include fostering a welcoming and engaging environment for visitors; establish relationships between Soldiers Memorial and other museums
• Visitor engagement and accessibility which includes establishing policies and procedures that incorporate a "roving" model of engagement, wayfinding, membership sales and interpretive content about Soldiers Memorial and local military history; develop an environment that is welcoming to veterans experiencing the effects of war
• Community programs which includes scheduling education programs ("Chow and Chat" Series); collaborate to plan annual signature events; consider ways to incorporate experiences of all branches of military service, ranks, veterans and diversity
• Scheduling and marketing to include scheduling of programs; following MHS directives for social media content and press releases
• Brand and membership promotion by engaging visitors in learning MHS's mission; utilize online platforms to sell and renew memberships
• General responsibilities that include attending professional development opportunities, researching and writing blogs and submitting social media content

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in education, museum studies, family education, social work, history or related field
• 2 plus years experience working in a museum, historic site, battle site, veteran agency, military organization or non-profit organization

Skills:

• Experience with education program development
• Experience networking and collaborating with organizations for programming
• Understanding of military history and US military structure
• Excellent organizational and communication skills required
• Strong customer service skills required
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects and multi-task
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint, Adobe Suite, ALTRU (ticketing and scheduling) and ADP (time and attendance)
• Basic competencies in presentation technologies, such as projectors and other multimedia equipment
