Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant is a service-oriented position that is responsible for various accounting functions for the Missouri Historical Society.

Essential Functions:

• Contribute to an environment that fosters teamwork, effective communication and responsiveness
• Assist with processing Accounts Payable invoices and purchase orders
• Record cash receipts from various sources within the organization
• Maintain current written procedures
• Prepare journal entries related to the various areas in support of month end closing
• Assist with monthly/quarterly/annual accounting close and reconciliation process
• Prepare account reconciliations for general ledger accounts as needed 
• Cross train and serve as back up to Accounts Payable and Payroll 
• Assist in the preparation of financial presentations and other administrative tasks as assigned
• Perform other appropriate duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, college degree is preferred
• Minimum of 1 year of accounting work experience 
• Experience with Financial Edge accounting system is preferred

• Solid written and oral communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Office 
• Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
• Excellent customer service and communication skills 
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
