Visitor Experience Representative

Position Summary:

The Visitor Experience Representative will strive to create a welcoming environment where visitors and members of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are inspired. The Visitor Experience Representative will provide personalized interactions helping people gain information about our community, encouraging questions, and fostering interest in our region's past. The Visitor Experience Representative encourages visitors to discuss artifacts, ask questions, and engage with the exhibitions through our interactives and audio-visual components. 

Essential Functions:

  • Foster a welcoming and friendly environment by smiling and enthusiastically greeting all visitors.
  • Ensure that all patrons receive prompt, efficient, and pleasant customer service in person, on the phone, and via email.
  • Enthusiastically engage visitors by presenting information regarding the museum's current and upcoming exhibitions, events, and programs.
  • Promote the benefits of museum membership and successfully process renewals and upgrades.
  • Always maintain and project a positive and professional image, reflecting pride in the position and enthusiasm for the institution and its mission.
  • Anticipate visitor needs and solve guest issues.
  • Ability to interact with visitors for long periods of time is required.
  • Be vigilant and ready to tactfully enforce museum policies regarding food and drinks in the galleries, flash photography, and safety concerns.
  • Act with integrity and honesty in protecting incoming revenue and working with cash/credit cards/passes/coupons/other financial-related transactions
  • Efficiently operate web-based museum ticketing software in various locations throughout the museum to successfully process membership applications and renewals as well as tickets for paid MHM exhibitions and programs.
  • Perform core operational functions of exhibits and museum including wayfinding, and opening and closing procedures.
  • Attend training workshops as scheduled.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Actively participate in team and division meetings. Be proactive in bringing forward possible solutions to challenges.
  • Perform gallery attendant functions, as needed.
  • Other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Windows-based computers, tablets and laptop devices.  
  • Ability to properly operate a web-based ticketing software program using PCs and/or tablet devices which may include handling large amounts of cash, credit cards/passes/coupons and/or other financial-related transactions 
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time in various locations throughout the museum
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Required Skills:

  • High energy, enthusiastic, and a customer-centered mind-set   
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public
  • Maintain a friendly and professional appearance and demeanor at all times  
  • Familiar with local history and St. Louis-area attractions
