Volunteer Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Volunteer Coordinator at the Missouri Historical Society is a part-time position that works 25 hours per week in the Volunteer Office, housed inside the Missouri History Museum. Working alongside the Volunteer and Intern Services Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator will build and maintain relationships with MHS's Volunteers across all three of our locations: Soldiers Memorial Military Museum, the Library and Research Center, and the Missouri History Museum. The ideal candidate has strong relationship building skills, is comfortable working in a lively office with 2-5 people in it at any given time, enjoys coordinating group tours and events, and is comfortable with (or learning) software for space management and volunteer tracking.
Essential Functions:
Coordinating Volunteers
- Oversee the Volunteer and Intern Services Office by greeting, supervising, and scheduling docents for group tours and public programs using Volgistics, Microsoft Excel, and Altru (a Blackbaud product)
- Assist in on-boarding new Volunteers, including giving tutorials on Volgistics for tracking hours
- Assist in educating new Volunteers and docents on exhibit content, distributing newsletters, and keeping an events calendar in office
Administrative Duties
- Implement logistical needs of meeting, orientations, and events
- Maintain a clean and welcoming space to volunteers, interns, and staff
Recruitment and Research
- Assist in recruitment efforts and community partnership
- Assist on research of museum best practices, internal reporting, and evaluation of tours
- Create, run, and submit service and volunteer reports as needed
- Assist the Manger of Volunteer and Intern Services with all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Hospitality, Education, Social Work, or similar field required
- 2 years work experience in a non-profit, senior living, or museum or cultural institution preferred; experience working with volunteers especially desired
- Knowledgeable of adult learning theories
- Experience and proficiency with Altru, Raisers Edge, Volgistics, or similar software a plus
- Experience teaching or leading training is a plus
- Previous staff scheduling and coordinating experience a plus
Skills:
- Passion for volunteerism with superior interpersonal skills
- Loves museums and serving the public
- Organized, detail oriented, and able to meet deadlines
- Positive demeanor; self-starter and able to work independently
- Superior knowledge of Microsoft products such as Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Strong verbal and written communication skills especially for developing instructional manuals
- Some light lifting of boxes of office supplies or assistance in event setup requested
Preferred Skill:
- Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred
